I am happy to teach anyone from age 12 up, so long as they have basic music training (i.e. read music). I have taught for many years for the Golden Gate Philharmonic (www.ggph.org) where people from age 10 to 18 learn string instruments as well as music theory. I also teach, at a higher level of complexity, music analysis and composition; and sometimes music history as well. An example of this kind of teaching can be seen at

--- the first of four videos analyzing the movement of a Mozart String Quartet. And a sampling of my own compositions can be seen on YouTube (search for Alden Jenks composer) as well as on my own website, www.aldenjenks.com. My rates are flexible. Contact me to learn more.

I taught at the San Francisco Conservatory for many years, now teach for the Golden Gate Philharmonic, and privately.
I attended Yale University (B.A. Music Theory) and the University of California, Berkeley (M.A. Music Composition). I studied one year and and participated in a performance in Darmstadt, Germany, with Karlheinz Stockhausen. I studied piano with Barbara Shearer and Robert Helps, and learned electronic music from Anthony Gnazzo and David Tudor. I learn every day.
