San José Chamber Orchestra presents “CONCERTO NIGHT” featuring Miles Reed, cellist and Laureate of the Klein International String Competition performing Cello Concerto No. 2 by Nikolai Kapustin. Conductor: Anthony Quartuccio. 

For four decades, the Klein Competition has championed the world’s finest young string players through professional and performance skills, providing performance opportunities, monetary support, and a community for their growth. The Irving M. Klein International String Competition, a yearly competition which presents the world’s finest string players (ages 15-23) to local audiences.

ABOUT MILES REED: A laureate of the 2025 Klein International String Competition, Miles Reed is a cellist of remarkable creativity and passion. Particularly invested in representing living composers, Miles has premiered new works in various ensembles including the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble, Thornton Edge, Oberlin Contemporary Music Ensemble, Reed Trio, and many others. In the fall of 2024, he premiered Katya Mueller’s Cello Concerto with the Oberlin Sinfonietta. Other highlights in Miles’ performance career include his solo debut at the Aspen Music Festival in 2025 performing Tan Dun’s lamenting cello concerto, Elegy: Snow in June, and leading the NextGen Symphony as principal cellist at the Tianjin Juilliard Orchestral Leadership Symposium in May 2025. Miles has enjoyed masterclasses with Steven Isserlis, Joel Krosnick, Astrid Schween, Gwen Krosnick, and many other legendary pedagogues of our time.

The San José Chamber Orchestra, a professional string-based ensemble of 19+ players, presents a series of 7–9 programs per season. Many performances feature one or more commissions or world premieres by award-winning composers with critically acclaimed guest artists as featured soloists. San José Chamber Orchestra is the recipient of five ASCAP/League of American Orchestras Adventurous Programming Awards, has produced seven CDs of American music and commissioned and/or premiered over 200 new works in 30 seasons.
