“For Ed” is a heartfelt tribute concert honoring the remarkable 20-year legacy of Dr. Edward C. Harris, who served as music and artistic director of the San Jose Wind Symphony until his retirement in 2022. Under the direction of Dr. David Vickerman, the San Jose Wind Symphony will perform a program that reflects Dr. Harris's profound impact on the ensemble and its audiences. In honor of Ed's instrument, the concert features Steve Sánchez, clarinetist, performing Oscar Navarro's II Concerto. This concerto for Clarinet and Wind Band is a one-movement work with three main sections, characterized by its rich orchestration and exploitation of the clarinet's technical capabilities. It blends tonal language with flamenco elements and a minimalist touch, creating a piece that is both virtuosic and emotionally expressive. The concert also features some of Ed's favorite works for band, as we celebrate his passion, dedication, and the musical excellence he fostered. Join us for an afternoon of music and memories as we honor Dr. Harris and his extraordinary contributions to the San Jose Wind Symphony!
Thank You, Ed.
