Livermore, Calif. – The Valley Concert Chorale, the Tri-Valley’s premier chorus, is seeking new singers for its upcoming 2025-2026 concert season, which includes a performance at Carnegie Hall, New York City in June 2026. The Chorale is holding open rehearsals for singers and auditions in September. Details are as follows:
Open rehearsals and Auditions
Monday, September 8 and 15, 2025
Rehearsal hours 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.
First Presbyterian Church
2020 Fifth Street, Livermore, CA 94550
Call (925) 866-4003 to schedule an audition
The Chorale is seeking experienced singers with sight-reading skills who enjoy singing exciting and challenging music. The Chorale performs three concert sets a season with a wide variety of music ranging from classical to contemporary, and folk to jazz.
There are two options for interested singers to audition for the Chorale: schedule an appointment to audition on either September 9 or 15, before each rehearsal begins, or attend an open rehearsal and audition at the end of each night.
“We are very excited about growing the chorale as we enter into the next performance season with our new director Joseph Castro who joined us earlier this year,” says Sarah Allendorf, VCC Board President. “We want to offer interested singers options to finding out about us and want to audition.”
The Chorale’s 2025-2026 season begins with holiday concerts entitled “An American Holiday: Christmas Choral Music from the Americas” featuring songs from Argentina, Venezuela, Mexico, and the USA. In March, the Chorale will perform a mass (to be announced at a later date). In May, the Chorale will perform John Rutter’s Requiem in collaboration with First Presbyterian Church of Livermore and Las Positas Community College Chamber Choir. The Requiem will also be performed at Carnegie Hall in June.
“We are especially excited for our trip to New York City in June where we will perform Rutter’s chorale masterpiece, his Requiem, at Carnegie Hall,” adds Allendorf. “It will be an amazing experience for the Chorale!”
The 15-minute audition appointment will include some basic sight-reading, and a rhythmic exercise. To determine vocal range, auditioners should come prepared to sing a short song (e.g., art song, hymn, folk song), in any language. Singers must commit to the season with Monday evening rehearsals held at the First Presbyterian Church of Livermore.
