Brenda is internationally recognized for her oboe, english horn and oboe d’amore teaching skills, and remains as devoted to total beginners as she is to advanced players. Every lesson is fun! She’s taught master classes throughout the United States and worldwide and has built both her teaching and playing careers on versatility, making the oboe and its music accessible to almost any audience. Her Oboe of the World CD and her Sonic Forest CD are acclaimed as “groundbreaking!” and she’s a foremost educator about the East African tree from which woodwind musical instruments are made, the environment and the people in whose forests it grows. Brenda teaches classical music including baroque to modern, orchestral, solo and chamber repertoire. She focuses not only on how to play the music, but most importantly, on how to play the oboe, including making and adjusting reeds. For students who wish to expand their repertoire, she will, in appropriate situations, also teach bluegrass, pop, progressive jazz, world and improvised musics. Brenda is happy to assist with auditions, college applications, advice and suggestions.
