The Bay Area Rainbow Symphony celebrates Pride with "Dearly, Queerly, Over the Rainbow" — Saturday, June 20, 7:30 PM at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, 50 Oak Street, San Francisco.
The evening opens with The Wizard of Oz Concert Suite — the beloved Arlen and Stothart songs in a lush Hollywood orchestration — before turning to the San Francisco premiere of Jake Heggie's Good Morning, Beauty. This cycle of four songs, with poetry by Taylor Mac, traces the full arc of queer partnership: the wonder of waking next to the person you love, the ruts and misunderstandings that come with a shared life, and the humor and beauty of navigating it all. Brahms' lyrical Symphony No. 3 concludes the program.
Mezzo-soprano Nikola Printz — acclaimed for performances that are "heartrending, musically resplendent…and thrillingly fierce" (San Francisco Chronicle) — joins conductor Robert Mollicone, BARS' newly appointed music director. A member of the SF Opera music staff and faculty at both the SFO Adler Fellowship and SF Conservatory of Music, Mollicone conducted SF Opera's inaugural Pride Concert to wide acclaim. This performance is dedicated to the memory of Michael Tilson Thomas and Joshua Robison.
