The musicians of The English Concert return for their annual Berkeley engagement with a concert presentation of Handel’s 1726 opera Alessandro. The lively, charming score explores the romantic life of conqueror Alexander the Great, focusing less on Alessandro’s acts of war and more on his turbulent love triangle with the two women who vie for his affection. French countertenor and Handel specialist Christophe Dumaux is Alessandro; American soprano Joélle Harvey plays Lisaura, and Australian mezzo-soprano Xenia Puskarz Thomas is her competitor, Rossane.
