Britain’s early-music ensemble returns with a concert performance of the Handel masterwork Hercules. With a libretto in English, the musical drama is a showcase for mezzo-soprano Ann Hallenberg, who sings the role of the hero’s wife Dejanira, evolving from impatience to rage to despair as her jealousy leads her to murder and madness. It also features some of Handel’s choral writing performed by the voices of New York City’s Clarion Choir.
