Mariachi Herencia de Mexico: Día de los Muertos

Presented by Cal Performances

A man is dressed in traditional a Mexican mariachi attire standing in front of a mic with his hands up. There are flow appliqués at the bottom of the frame.

Cal Performances celebrates Día de los Muertos with Chicago’s next-generation mariachi ensemble. Mariachi Herencia de México was founded 10 years ago by César Maldonado, a founder of the Mariachi Heritage Foundation, a nonprofit organization that promotes mariachi education in Chicago public schools. The band fuses traditional repertoire with influences from other Mexican, Caribbean, and Central and South American genres such as salsa, bolero, bossa nova, son jarocho, huapango, and cumbia—held together with deep emotion and bold storytelling.
