Takács Quartet with Jeremy Denk, piano

Presented by Cal Performances

A quartet, holding their instruments, standing in front of a white wall. A man's portrait is in the bottom right corner, as he is the featured pianist.

The Takács Quartet returns to Berkeley in two performances this season, welcoming the ensemble’s newest member, cellist Mihai Marica. This first concert features the Grammywinning quartet performing with pianist Jeremy Denk—winner of a MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship and the Avery Fisher Prize. The program features a work by Berkeley native Gabriela Lena Frank —who this year won both the Pulitzer Prize for Music and was named Composer of the Year by Musical America—that explores the delusions of Cervantes’ Don Quixote. The Romantic composer César Franck’s searing and sensual Piano Quintet in F minor showcases Denk’s passionate side. (The second performance takes place on Sunday, January 24, 2027.)
