Theotime Langlois de Swarte, violin; Thomas Dunford, lute: The Mad Lover

Presented by Cal Performances

Portrait of Théotime Langlois de Swarte and Thomas Dunford holding their respective instrument in front of a gray back drop

Two of the most exciting young voices in historically informed performance return to Cal Performances to play an expressive recital exploring the 17th-century English notion of melancholy. Violinist Théotime Langlois de Swarte and lutist Thomas Dunford use John Eccles’ Mad Lover Suite as a springboard to draw connections between works by three musical families—the English brother-composers Daniel and Henry Purcell, John and Henry Eccles, and the Italian father-son composers Nicola Matteis and Nicola Matteis Jr.
