Wrap up your Memorial Day weekend with a stellar evening of new music on Monday, May 25 (7:30pm/6:45pm pre-concert talk) at Noe Valley Ministry in San Francisco (1021 Sanchez St). For our 2026 season finale, we're excited to present Is That Your Final Answer?
The cornerstone of the concert is a world premiere Fromm Foundation commission from acclaimed composer, Trevor Weston, entitled Time Pieces (2026). Scored for flute, clarinet, violin, cello, and piano, the work is a continuation of the composer's fascination with time: its ability to to move and remain static, and how we measure and manipulate it. You may remember Weston as the inaugural winner of the Emerging Black Composers Project in 2021 and his subsequent, much lauded, 2022 debut of Push with the San Francisco Symphony, directed by Esa-Pekka Salonen.
We'll also continue our "Answering The Unanswered Question" project, with another new Bruce Bennett arrangement of Charles Ives' The Unanswered Question (1908), and a world premiere answer, ...still (2026) from Aida Shirazi. Yet another world premiere is FlareStruck (2025), by Edmund Song, winner of Earplay's 2025 Vibrant Shores Composers Competition. Also on the program, a "near premiere" of the rarely performed String Trio (2011) by Elliott Carter, and one of our favorite works by Rice University Professor Anthony Brandt, Four Score (2013).
