Espressivo Presents: Romantique
Saturday, June 7, 7:00 PM — First Presbyterian Church, Monterey
Sunday, June 8, 7:00 PM — Peace United Church, Santa Cruz
Espressivo, Santa Cruz’s small but intense chamber orchestra, brings a richly textured program of French Romantic gems to two intimate venues this June. With one performance on home ground and one just over the county line, these concerts are a chance to experience world-class musicianship without the drive to the big city.
Led by guest conductor Daniel Henriks, familiar to Monterey and Santa Cruz audiences through his work with I Cantori di Carmel, and originally founded by the legendary Michel Singher, Espressivo features some of the finest professional musicians from across Santa Cruz and Monterey counties. It’s a rare kind of musical collaboration: refined, joyful, and rooted in community.
The program features:
-
Arthur Honegger’s Pastorale d’été — a quietly cinematic woodland daydream
-
Hector Berlioz’s Les nuits d’été, with soprano Emily Sinclair — six haunting, expressive songs full of unexpected turns
-
Georges Bizet’s Symphony in C — composed at 17, forgotten for decades, and now celebrated for its elegance and wit
These concerts invite you to travel to France without leaving the Central Coast and experience the shared joy of live performance, made right here with local talent we can be proud of. Whether you come for the gorgeous music, the welcoming community, or simply to take a night off, you’ll be glad you came.
Join us for this vibrant musical evening. All are welcome.
