Renowned for her refined artistry and flawless technical control, Yeol Eum Son brings electrifying contrasts to her Mondavi Center debut.
Born in Wonju, South Korea, Son studied at Korea National University of Arts, winning medals at both the Van Cliburn and International Tchaikovsky Competitions.
For this Mondavi Center debut concert, Son brings together a program tracing variation and transformation, from Beethoven’s inventive Six Variations to Liszt’s deeply poetic "Ricordanza." Rachmaninov’s voice is heard both directly, in Vocalise and the Prelude, op. 32 and through his Romantic reimagining of Bach, alongside Hess’s beloved transcription of Bach’s "Jesus, Joy of Man’s Desiring."
