Opera San Jose presents “Cavalleria Rusticana” and “Pagliacci”

Two powerful women lead Opera San José’s return in the new year with the gripping double bill of Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana” and Leoncavallo’s “Pagliacci”, bringing raw passion and high drama to the California Theatre. Set in the same Sicilian village before and after World War I, the operas explore love, jealousy, and betrayal, featuring iconic moments such as Mascagni’s beloved “Intermezzo” and the electrifying “Vesti la giubba.” Celebrated composer and conductor Alma Deutscher returns to the podium, with Opera San José General Director & CEO Shawna Lucey directing. Performances are sung in Italian with English and Spanish supertitles.
