French Connections: Berkeley Symphony & Friends

Presented by Piedmont Center for the Arts

Join Dianne Nicolini, the voice of Classical California, for an afternoon of her favorite French music. This concert leads listeners into the beauty of a spring morning imagined by Lili Boulanger in the last few months of her life, through the "bittersweet grace" of Poulenc's lyrical sonata for flute, visiting the Joyful Island presumed to be Debussy's vision of Cythera, and after a meditation from Massenet's opera Thais, closes with Ravel's perhaps most ambitious chamber work, the Piano Trio, filled with both solemnity and exuberance as he explores the competitive sonorities of the piano and strings. Dianne Nicolini was the first female full-time announcer on KXTR in Kansas City, on KKHI in San Francisco, and on Classical California. She was inducted into the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame in 2016. Dianne has kept midday listeners company on Classical California since 1994.
