PLÜMAGE • A Queer Opera Pastiche

Presented by Queeratura Opera Collective

A QUEER OPERA is just what we need right now! A poignant parable, springing forth from our own outrage & grief, aiming to offer some collective uplift & balm. As our story unfolds, you’ll meet a flock of diverse birds, who face oppression & captivity. Together, might we witness them break free & return to their natural state of revelry, fabulosity & flight? Be a part of our movement, and passion project.

Musical genres in this pastiche showcase are rooted in Baroque (Handel, Purcell) & accented by German Lieder (Grieg, Schoenberg), Pop/Rock (Dolly, Gaga, Fleetwood Mac) & Musical Theatre (Sondheim).

FEATURING Starry Local Operatic & Drag Talent: Sara Couden, Contralto, from SF Opera’s Handmaid’s Tale; Matheus Coura, Countertenor, from Opera Parallele’s Harvey Milk Reimagined; Chea Kang, Soprano, from SFO’s ‘25 Merola Opera Program, and recent Le Comte Ory; Dusty Pörn, Drag Countertenor, from Academy SF’s The 3 C*NTRALTOS; Pink Barbie Jesus, Tenor, from Lamplighter’s HMS Pinafore; and Harpsichordist & Pianist, Derek Tam, Executive Director of the San Francisco Early Music Society (SFEMS).
