Inspiring Virtuosity Launches Redwood Symphony’s 2025–26 Season!

Redwood City, CA - Redwood Symphony opens its 2025 - 26 season, Season of Adventure, with Virtuosi on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 7:30 pm in the Main Theater at Cañada College, 4200 Farm Hill Blvd., Redwood City.

Music Director Eric Kujawsky leads an inspiring program filled with brilliance, humor, and power.

With our new 7:30 pm start time, the pre-concert discussion with Maestro Kujawsky now begins at 6:45 pm. Please join us - the insightsenhance the concert-going experience.

The performance opens with Kirke Mechem’s The Jayhawk, Magic Bird Overture! - a high-spirited and humorous piece by the acclaimed Bay Areacomposer. Maestro Kujawsky says audience members should be ready for fun: “If Stravinsky’s Firebird and Woody Woodpecker had a son, it would bethe Jayhawk. This is one wild piece of music!”

Mr. Mechem is celebrating his 100th birthday this year. Following the performance, audience members are invited to a free toast reception in thetheater lobby with Maestro Kujawsky and the composer in honor of Mr. Mechem’s centennial.

Sergei Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No.2 demands an exceptional soloist, and pianist Daniel Glover is celebrated for his technical prowess and expressive power. He has performed across 42 states and 25 countries in Europe, Asia, North America, South America, and the Caribbean. Glover brings artistry to Prokofiev’s challenging and captivating work.

In 1940, Bela Bartók was forced to leave his beloved Hungary to escape Nazi persecution. Adjusting to life in America was difficult, but the commissions Bartók received, including Concerto for Orchestra, revitalized him.

Concerto for Orchestra has become Bartók’s most popular work. In a language everyone can understand, he successfully incorporates modern elements in an emotionally moving and accessible way. The finale’s originality and vitality give the entire work a sense of defiance. As Music Director Eric Kujawsky notes, “In my opinion, Concerto for Orchestra has the best ending of any classical piece ever written. It will lift you out of your seat and propel you into the stratosphere!
