Klezmer & Krakauer

Presented by Santa Rosa Symphony

Pioneering visionary David Krakauer offers the world premiere of his concerto for klezmer clarinet, The Fretless Clarinet, co-composed with Kathleen Tagg. The piece references Krakauer’s passionate and highly personal sound world, which comes from the music of his Eastern European Jewish roots, mixed with a myriad of other influences. Providing both contrast and continuity, the program begins with traditional Klezmer music arranged by Krakauer. Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s beloved Scheherazade spins a seductive web of beguiling tales of exotic adventure and enchantment inspired by One Thousand and One Arabian Nights.

Concert Conversations, a 30-minute pre-concert talk with Music Director Francesco Lecce-Chong begins at 6:30 PM (for the 7:30 PM concert) and 2:00 PM (for the 3:00 PM concert), free to ticket holders.
