Praised by The New York Times for his “clarity, elegance and abundant technique,” and by The Washington Post as a young artist with “boundless potential,” pianist Aristo Sham has performed on five continents and was featured in (UK’s) Channel 4 2009 documentary The World’s Greatest Musical Prodigies.

Sham has played for dignitaries including King Charles, the Queen of Belgium, and former President Hu of China, and collaborated with major orchestras such as the London Symphony under Sir Simon Rattle, the Hong Kong Philharmonic, and the Minnesota Orchestra.

This is the first time the Gold Medal has been awarded to an artist from Hong Kong in the 63-year history of the prestigious Van Cliburn Piano Competition. Aristo Sham took home both the gold medal and the audience award in the 2025 competition. The critics showered him with praise, calling him him “a marvel of deft characterization,” “consistently authoritative,” “a card-carrying risk taker,” “a dapper, aristocratic figure on stage,”  He was mentioned in more than 800 news articles and his Cliburn performance videos were streamed 2 million times across 125 countries.
