THE YELLOW RIVER CANTATA by Xian Xinghai
The year 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of three momentous events: the end of World War II, the conclusion of the Sino-Japanese War, and the founding of the United Nations. These milestones remind us of the resilience of the human spirit and the enduring pursuit of peace.
To commemorate these historic events, Symphony San Jose and Chinese-American Organizations proudly present a landmark performance of The Yellow River Cantata, composed by Xian Xinghai. ONE PERFORMANCE ONLY.
Composer Xian Xinghai blended Western classical music forms (such as cantata and symphony) with traditional Chinese folk melodies and instruments. The Yellow River Cantata was inspired by Guang Weiran’s 1939 patriotic poem entitled “Yellow River” which was adapted as the work’s lyrics. The result is a unique fusion that captures both the grandeur of China's "Mother River" and the emotional depth of the Chinese people's struggle. It is a cornerstone of Chinese classical music and is frequently performed both in China and abroad.
SINGLE TICKETS: $35 TO $125. By phone, email and website. Tickets also available at the door, one-hour before curtain.
