YES, my friends, 'Beware the Ides of March' is the phrase that comes to mind this month,
though I suspect some folks might be relieved at the implication of that particular phrase,
the fall of Julius Caesar and the rule of Rome! I've been musing about Homer's Odyssey as of late -
particularly the part about the straights of Messina and the the equally monstrous forces of
Scylla and Charybdis on either side and the narrow path to safety that lies between.
It seems that these competing, terrifying forces, forcing us to chose
'between the crashing rocks and a very hard place' are a looming part of the
crazy chaos with which we navigate an often treacherous, unreasonable world.
Madness always lies waiting in the wings. Now I ask you, what could be more operatic than that?
