“We are very excited to have the opportunity to perform with these three choirs,” says Sarah Allendorf, VCC Board President.  “We’ve been looking forward to this all season to work with so many talented singers, especially in performing Rutter’s Requiem, together, a favorite among choral groups around the world.”

John Rutter’s Requiem, accompanied by an ensemble orchestra of organ, oboe, flute, timpani, glockenspiel, harp and cello, is one of the most beloved and frequently performed choral works of the late 20th century. What sets Rutter’s Requiem apart from traditional requiems, which are typically a Mass for the dead, Rutter’s is noted for its optimism, melodic beauty, and welcoming harmonic language.

“Admired for its clarity and heartfelt beauty, Rutter’s work offers a moment of reflection and peace, made even more meaningful as multiple communities unite in song,” says Joseph Castro, VCC Artistic Director and West High School’s Chamber Choir Director.  “With this performance of Requiem, it also prepares us for a remarkable milestone for VCC when we travel to New York City in June to join with other choirs from across the nation to perform Rutter’s work at Carnegie Hall.”

The Chorale will also perform a medley of three movements from Beethoven's Mass in C in addition to Jake Runestead’s A Silence Haunts Me.

“It is both an honor and a humbling experience to participate in this collaboration and we look forward to these concerts with gratitude, hope and a shared sense of purpose that we hope our audiences will celebrate with us,” adds Castro.
