The original opera company was founded in the 1970s. We have been operating as Mercury since 2024.

Mercury Theater was founded to carry forward the legacy of Marvin Klebe, who created a company where the community could access "Blue Jeans Opera," that is, accessible opera with a bold vision and impeccable music. Mercury is carrying forward that legacy to present new English-language opera and English-language translations of classic works. In an intimate 99-seat theater, this is opera without the pretension but with all the heart and artistry.
