Mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter, known as the Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier) of her generation, has long associations with Carlos Kleiber, Claudio Abbado, and Sir Colin Davis, and has a history of genre-crossing collaborations with the likes of Elvis Costello, Brad Mehldau, and Rufus Wainwright. In this recital with keyboardist Kristian Bezuidenhout, she brings her intensity to Schubert’s Schwanengesang song cycle, a collection first published after the composer’s death that mines complex emotional terrain, from love and despair to sorrow and serenity. A pair of Schubert keyboard interludes, interspersed with the songs, showcases Bezuidenhout’s talents.
