Sound & Transformation

Presented by Volti

Volti returns for its 47th season this November with “Sound and Transformation,” a program full of improvisation and shifting sound worlds.

The program features Jerod Impichchaachaaha' Tate’s “Visions of a Child,” which is based upon Pueblo melodies and rhythms and depicts the imaginings of a child being lulled to sleep; Žibuoklė Martinaitytė’s “Chant des Voyelles,” initially commissioned and premiered by Volti in 2018 — the piece harkens to the ancient tradition of ascribing sacred, mystical and healing powers and significance to vowels; and Marcos Balter’s “Livro das Cores,” which sets texts by Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa and explores color in both literal and figurative ways.

The program will also include a preview of Chris Castro’s “Oracles,” which explores the connection between sound and the spoken word in tales from the West Coast.
